I have begun reading a book called Hunger Games It is a story about a girl named Katniss who is a hunter. She lives in district 12 in the country of Panem. Their country is ruled by a capitol far away. The opening chapters introduce you to the characters. Katniss is a hunter and she likes to hunt with her partner name Gale. In the opening chapters the pair go hunting and fishing in the woods and share a small feast together. They joke about what the Hunger games. You are introduced to the reaping which is the drawing of names for the Hunger Games. At age twelve you are entered into a pool of names. Each age after that your name is added an additional time. It is worse for the poor because your name can be added for a years supply of grain and oil, known as a tessera. The girls dress in their best for the reaping. This is Prim's first reaping, Katniss' sister, and she is protective of her sister. She feels powerless against anything that might happen to her sister at the reaping. The reaping is a big televised ordeal, and people take bets in the crowd on who will be chosen. The reason the Hunger Games were instituted were because of the "Dark Days" in which the districts rose up against the capitol. There are only twelve now, because the thirteenth was defeated. The Hunger games are a punishment of the uprising of the districts and a boy and a girl are chosen each year from each district as a "tribute" to compete in the Hunger Games. Each tribute is taken to the capitol where they are imprisoned and forced to fight to the death. The last tribute standing wins. The winning tribute wins food for their district and it is supposed to be a feast. During the reaping the ladies name is drawn first, and it happens to be Primrose, Katniss' sister, whose name was only entered into the lottery once. Everyone is shocked that a young girl has been chosen as tribute. Katniss decides she should take her sister's place, and takes the stage. The boy that was chosen was a boy named Peeta who in the past shared bread with Katniss as she scavenged for food after a failed attempt to trade goods. It comes as a surprise to Katniss that Peeta has been chosen. This is a really good book, and it will be continued.
